Asymmetric Encryption

« Back to Glossary Index

Asymmetric Encryption, also known as Public-Key Cryptography, is an example of one type. Unlike “normal” (symmetric) encryption, Asymmetric Encryption encrypts and decrypts the data using two separate yet mathematically connected cryptographic keys.

These keys are known as:-

  1. A private key
  2. A public key.

A message that is encrypted with the private key must be decrypted with the public key and vice versa.

The public key is easily derived from the private key but the reverse is nearly impossible.
